New Costa del Sol Golf Centre Opens. - 1.9.03

Sunshine Golf the popular golf store and reservations office, based at Km. 200 on the N.340 at La Cala de Mijas, announced the opening on the 1st September of their extended premises giving the coast the largest golf store in Andalucia.

“ What we want is a department store for golfers.” And that, in the words of Ken Hook, Managing Director and partner of Sunshine Golf, is precisely what has been lovingly created at The Costa Del Sol Golf Centre, by the Sunshine Golf team. This new facility will create a centre of some 1000 square metres of shop floor, aimed at offering the golfer a “one stop” shop designed to cater for all their needs. The new centre comprises three linked sales areas with a wide range of golf equipment, clothing and accessories.

One of the many facets of the Sunshine Golf operation, which has gone a long way to ensuring its special place in the Costa golfing industry, is the highly successful green fee reservation service. The highly experienced and dedicated reservations team probably have the largest tee time reservation service on the coast.

Sunshine Viajes S.L. a fully bonded Spanish travel company operating out of the new Golf Centre will be able to legally provide its clients with a complete travel service which will include golfing packages, accommodation, car hire and airport transport for both golfers and non-golfers.

Over the years Sunshine Golf has built up and continued to enjoy, an enviable position at the top of the golfing retail tree. During this time it has placed great emphasis upon its relationship with customers and suppliers alike. In addition it has worked tirelessly to cement good working relationships with others in the industry and in particular golf course directors. As a result the reputation and standing of Sunshine Golf has been rightly acknowledged within the industry and has gone a long way to ensuring that it can offer it’s clients the best possible service.

Even acknowledged market leaders cannot afford to be complacent and those at Sunshine Golf have never been afraid to move forward and to expand into different areas. To this end in May of 2003 they launched The Sunshine Golf Club.

Aimed specifically at the resident golfer here on the Costa del Sol, The Sunshine Golf Club provides its members with affordable golf at preferential tee times, not just in the low season but also throughout the year.

The Club has been able to negotiate special terms with six different courses on the Coast. From Almenara in the west to Mijas in the east, with Cabopino, Santa Clara, Estepona and Lauro in between, the Club now offers excellent benefits for its members.

But a club is not a club without a social side and the Sunshine Golf Team have worked tirelessly in order to ensure that the Sunshine Golf Club offers not only affordable golf, but the benefits of a true golf club, organising regular Club competitions and social events up and down the coast, with a club order of merit, providing a season long interest for those members who prefer a competitive edge to their golf.

The Club is currently engaged in an application for full golf club status as recognised by the Spanish Golf Federation, a process that should be successfully completed by the start of the new golf season in September.

So Sunshine Golf has grown and has now become “ The Costa del Sol Golf Centre”. From a small beginning back in the 1990’s, and as a result of hard work, dedication, vision, and some risk taking, by those at Sunshine Golf, the whole concept of, as Ken Hook puts it, “ A department store for golfers ” looks set to reach fruition when the new Costa del Sol Golf Centre officially opens its doors on the 1st September 2003.

At that moment those who have guided Sunshine Golf to its present position will realise not only a dream but also see the unfolding of a vision of how the golf supply industry should really be. The story will not end there because all at Sunshine Golf are aware that you do not maintain a position by standing still. A good indication of the forward thinking of those associated with Sunshine Golf is their recent move into the world of local media. They have recently begun a relationship with a local English language radio station.

In association with WAVE FM, broadcasting on 87.8 FM here on the coast, they now broadcast a twice-weekly radio show of music and chat with a golfing theme. The show goes out on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7pm and 8pm and features guests from the local golfing scene, plus a special local information feature presented by Stuart Harvey every Thursday. Another example of Sunshine Golf’s commitment to giving to its clients the best possible service.
