Junior Golf Schools
Whilst the Costa del Sol prides itself on the superb facilities it has for the golfer, it is now also taking notice of an very important future market, the young golfer, most golf academy’s on the coast provide lessons for this group many offering reasonably priced group lessons, usually at weekends.
Sunshine golf launched a ‘Beginner to Player’ programme over the recent Easter holiday. Youngsters from 8 to 16 – who had never played before were given a three day programme, consisting of six hours Professional tuition, concentrating firstly on the swing, the short game, putting, and finishing with a short Stableford Competition over 3 holes at a local golf course.
Equipment was provided and the young golfers thoroughly enjoyed their challenge, particularly getting the opportunity to go out and play ‘real golf’ with a PGA Professional.
Most golfers begin their love/hate relationship with the game of golf as adults, often as a means of escape from daily stresses and strains. The young on the other hand just play to enjoy the experience, and their development from first time player to a mid handicap golfer is amazing.
Teaching the young is very satisfying and watching them master the frustrating game of golf is a truly worthwhile experience. A good PGA professional can quickly assess a young golfers ability. Focusing on the basic skills, grip, swing, tempo and rythm, followed by chipping, putting and some basic knowledge of the rules, is usually enough to start a lifetime interest.
Those youngsters with a special aptitude for the game will be nurtured under the scrutiny of the Junior Elite group coach, and encouraged to play in competitions and eventually where they have the ability, to take part in amateur national and international championships, there must be many budding Sergio’s or Tigers out their and this is the way to find them.
Even if a child has not that ‘special’ ability golf is an excellent way for them to spend their time, there are so many areas where competition comes into play, on the practice putting green, who holes the most putts? Or who can hit the longest shot, they learn the courtesies and etiquette of golf, all of which will help them as they grow into adulthood.
Sunshine Golf have regular Saturday morning sessions (90 euros for ten weeks) and are offering the ‘Beginner to Player’ programme during the summer holidays, targeted at resident children and summer visitors, a five day programme is planned and the price will not be restrictive.
